London: Printed for J. Debrett et. al., 1789. Quarto (10x8 inches, 255x205 mm). Contemporary calf. Condition: Foxing, large tear to title page repaired with cellotape, terminal leaf detached; covers detached and heavily worn, backstrip abraded, endpapers renewed. Provenance : New Jersey College Library (inked stamp on the title and a withdrawn stamp on the errata leaf). first edition. “At the date of its publication, this was the fullest English work on the subject. It contains about 1600 entries . . . The work has been variously ascribed to Dalrymple, Homer, Long, and Reid” ( Church ). Breslauer Sale 1077; Church 1235; Sabin 5198.
