Biel's Sermo historialis passionis dominicae Georg Husner, 1496 BIEL, Gabriel (c.1420-1495, formerly attributed to Guilermus TEXTOR, d.1512). Sermo historialis passionis dominicae. –Johannes KANNEMANN (d. after 1469). De passione Christi secundum quattuor evangelistas. -Passio sive sermo in diebus Parasceves. And other works. Strasbourg: [Printer of the 1483 Jordanus de Quedlinburg (Georg Husner)], 11 February 1496. Fourth edition, in a contemporary binding. The first three works have until recently been attributed to Gulielmus Textor, or Wilhelm Tzewers; according to BSB-Ink, following the Verfasserlexikon, the first work is in fact by Gabriel Biel, a scholastic philosopher and associate of the Brethren of the Common Life, and the second by Johann Kannemann. Red initials, paragraph marks, and capital strokes (toned, some staining and a few wormtracks). Contemporary blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards, brass catchplates, paper labels on spine, remains of some index tabs (lacking strap, some wormholes). Provenance: some marginalia – Oswald Hoffmann (inscription dated 1553) – Amorbach Abbey (inscription) – Forest H. Sweet (1894-1961, American book dealer; sold, Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 21 May 1957, lot 612) – acquired there.
