BINDING-BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER] The book of common prayer, and administration of the sacraments, and other rites and ceremonies... . London: printed by Charles Bill Henry Hills, and Thomas Newcomb, printers to the King's Most Excellent Majesty, 1687. Full dark green morocco richly gilt, the covers with the arms of Henrietta Cavendish Holles Harley, Countess of Oxford and Mortimer (her stamp I), the Cavendish crest (serpent nowed, proper) in the corners of the covers, the spine in seven compartments, each with the Cavendish crest, marbled endpapers and edges. 16 x 10 inches (40.5 x 26 cm); [478] pp, collating A-C^(4) D^(6) E^(2) F-G^(4) H-N2^(6) O^(4) P^(6) R^(4) S-T^(6), but possibly lacking pi1, the engraved title (not present in all copies?, see ESTC notes, which indicate two settings, ours conforming with CSmH; collation also differs slightly, but work is complete), printed in a fine blackletter throughout. Covers rubbed, corners rubbed and a bit jambed, lower portion of front joint starting, head and toe of spine chipped, but still a very attractive specimen. Internally a clean tear into text at Dd3, and a few lesser defects. A handsome binding, the prayerbook of the only child and heiress of John Holles, 1st Duke of Newcastle and his wife, the former Lady Margaret Cavendish, daughter of Henry Cavendish, 2nd Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
