A JEWELLED BINDING SET WITH 24 JEWELS BY SANGORSKI AND SUTCLIFFE: full straight-grained brown morocco, covers with broad panel border with elaborately gilt stylized floral design with red and green onlays and floral corner-pieces incorporating stylized lily designs with white onlays, the front cover with border framing a large recessed panel of rectangular form with scalloped corners, this panel edged in turquoise morocco on the bevel, filled with tiny blossoms in onlaid white morocco among densely gilt-tooled swirling stems and small leaf tools against a densely gilt dotted ground, the center with a large laurel wreath design of onlaid green morocco gilt and SET WITH 16 CABOCHON RUBIES (one replaced with glass or sythetic material) and surmounted with a large onlaid black phoenix (or eagle) gripping a black onlaid branch in its talons and with an onlaid black morocco gilt ribbon at bottom, around a center medallion with onlaid turquoise border SET WITH 8 TURQUOISE STONES, surrounding Gautier's monogram TG in green, brown and black morocco onlays gilt; the rear cover with a matching border design surrounding an unrecessed panel of rectangular form with scalloped corners, edged in turquoise and filled with a densely tooled stylized lily pattern with white onlays, the center with a smaller onlaid laurel wreath design of onlaid green morocco gilt and decorated with small circular red onlays and an onlaid black morocco gilt ribbon at top, around a center medallion containing Swinburne's monogram ACS monogram in green, red and black morocco onlays gilt; spine in six compartments, a gilt-lettered turquoise morocco panel in one, a repeated onlaid intertwined strapwork in onlaid turquoise among a densely gilt-tooled swirling stems and small leaf tools with tiny blossoms in onlaid red morocco; board edges with single gilt fillet, broad turn-ins with gilt-ruled and -dotted border with elaborately gilt stylized corner-pieces incorporating stylized lily designs with white onlays, gilt-dotted rules terminating in small circular onlays of green morocco; doublures of green morocco with an elaborate gilt floral design incorporating lilies of white onlay, and small circular onlays of red; free endpages of green morocco gilt-panelled with small circular onlays at corners; t.e.g., others uncut, stamp-signed on the lower turn-in of front cover "Bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe London"; original printed wrappers bound in; dark green straight-grained velvet- and silk-lined box with hinged lids and snap fasteners (box worn).
