BLAEU, Willem and Jan. Nova Belgica et Anglia Nova, [Amsterdam, 1662].
BLAEU, Willem and Jan. Nova Belgica et Anglia Nova, [Amsterdam, 1662]. Engraved map, partially hand-colored, 383 x 502 mm. Latin text on verso. (Some light staining and offsetting.) Matted and framed. "This important map was one of the most attractive of the Americas at the time" (Burden). It is noted for the fact that its primary source is the first manuscript figurative map of the Dutch fur trader Adriaen Block: Bleau's printed version was the first full representation of it in print. It is also the first printed document to delineate an insular Manhattan. The present example is extracted from the first Latin edition: Joannes Blaeu America, quae est Geographiae Blauianae pars quinta liberunus volumen undecimum. Burden Mapping of North America 241.
