Lot of 4. Includes: Hamilton, Charles and Ostendorf, Lloyd. Lincoln in Photographs: An Album of Every Known Pose. Norman (OK): University of Oklahoma Press, 1963. 4to, light green-gray cloth, with dj, 409 numb. pp. Free front endpaper with inscriptions to Lincoln Herald Literary Editor, Arnold Gates, by both Charles Hamilton and Lloyd Ostendorf. The latter also has date of 25 Jan. 1964. This classic belongs in every Lincoln collector's library (we use ours at least weekly!). Minor scuffing on dj, one streak of soil on lower corner of page edges, else excellent condition. Bancroft, George. Memorial Address on the Life and Character of Abraham Lincoln, Delivered, at the Request of Both Houses of the Congress of America, Before Them, in the House of Representatives at Washington, on the 12th of February, 1866. Washington: Government Printing Office, 1866. Small 8vo, brown cloth, gilt lettering on front, 69pp. Arnold Gates' copy (signature on front pastedown). This was the first anniversary of Lincoln's birthday after the assassination. Some toning and foxing. Shelfwear. Spine ends worn; front hinge cracking at top. Still very good. Sandburg, Carl. Address of Carl Sandburg Before a Joint Session of Congress, February 12, 1959. New York: Harcourt, Brace & Company, 1959. 12mo, blue cloth with gilt front lettering, 15 unnumb. pp. Limited edition, number 185 of 750 numbered copies. This one also inscribed and signed by Sandburg ("Carl"). Each page with lovely monochrome views from American history. This, of course, the anniversary of Lincoln's 150th birthday. Minor sunning of spine, else excellent. Illustrated Life, Services, Martyrdom, and Funeral of Abraham Lincoln. Sixteenth President of the United States. With a Portrait of President Lincoln, and other Illustrative Engravings of the Scene of the Assassination, etc. Philadelphia: T.B. Peterson & Brothers, 1865. 12mo, printed paper wraps, 299pp plus 1pp ads. Originally published as a campaign biography in 1864, and was quickly reissued after the assassination with additional material. The paperback editions are seldom found, although a number apparently were bound by their purchasers as souvenirs. Most copies found today are hardbound. This copy also with many uncut pages, further indication of how quickly the publishers tried to get it on the market. Surface soil, some water stains. Scuffing especially of lower edge. Still in acceptable collectors' condition. Condition: All four with mylar dustjackets.
