Lot of 30. Five (5) items associated with boxing champion John L. Sullivan, including cabinet photograph of "The Boston Strongboy," with facsimile signature imprinted in the lower margin of mount recto, and Sullivan's record up to 1889 imprinted on verso (some soiling and toning to card, corner wear to mount); cabinet card John L. Sullivan's champion belt, copyrighted in negative by J.Wood, NY, 1887, with penciled caption and handstamp of Reynolds Photograph Co., Chicago on verso (with some surface loss/damage to print, and slight loss along edges/corners); trimmed silver gelatin press photo, 6 x 7.5 in., with handstamp of The Ring Magazine and partial typed label affixed on verso identifying the scene as the "first photograph of the two former holders of the world's heavyweight championship posed together," including John Sullivan and James J. Corbett (with portion of paper tag missing, surface wear on front and back of print, penciled scribbles and remnants of adhesive on verso); printed advertisement, 4.25 x 6.75 in., featuring portrait of John L. Sullivan and promotion for B. & I. Sternberg Tailor Made Clothing, Saint Paul, Minnesota on front and back (some surface wear, creasing, few small pinholes, creased corners); chromolithographed postcard titled, "Free Outdoor Vaudeville White City, Chicago (Sullivan and Kilrain Boxing)," with written message on reverse side (light corner/edge wear). Five (5) items associated with Jack Johnson, including oddly shaped dug medal, approx. 1.5 in. dia., featuring depiction of boxers, presumably Jack Johnson and Jim Jeffries, on obverse with text, "California 1910," reverse side with text, "Kill it California - World's Main Event Nevada July 4, 1910." A modern typed description states that the medal is a dug relic that came out of a Nevada token collection, adding that the original owner found it many years ago in the Reno-Carson city era. Possibly a rare medal issued for the historic fight held on July 4, 1910 in Reno, Nevada, which was watched by more than 22,000 people (damage as a result of being buried, but still readable); silver gelatin photograph, 4.75 x 6.25 in., with red inked arrow pointing to woman pencil identified on verso as "Mrs. Johnson at the Ringside, Reno, Nevada, July 4, 1910, Johnson-Jeffries fight" (even toning, loss to top right corner); press photograph, 8 x 10 in., with United Press International Inc. handstamp on verso and penciled note identifying the scene as Jeffries being knocked out by Jack Johnson (few minor creases in print, some spots and light pink ink mark); printed "Supplement to Double Number of 'Boxing'", 7.75 x 10.5 in., showing Jack Johnson, "World's Champion" and Bombadier Wells, "Champion of Great Britain" (mounted on heavier stock, with some surface soiling). Accompanied by 20 envelopes (all but one still sealed), containing "Ray-O-Print" photo developers, with typed identifications of the subjects, mostly sports personalities, including: Jack Dempsey (4); Lou Gehrig (7), one that is unsealed; Tom Mix (3); Rin Tin Tin (2); Lindy (presumably Charles Lindbergh) (1); and 3 labeled "WE."
