Bibliographer Merrill Mattes writes, "This is the migration record of a respectable but poor family that had to sacrifice and borrow to get their outfit together and were near starvation in Oregon." The narrative also gives a brief account of the author's later life in Lane County, Oregon, and Ventura County, California, where he eventually prospered as a citrus fruit grower and banker. Howes S339; Mattes 1279. Only a single copy in recent auction records (PBA, July 2012) but that copy in red cloth.
