British School, 19th Century Royal British Navy Warship in a Squall. Oil on paper mounted to canvas laid down on panel, 8 1/4 x 11 3/8 in., framed. Condition: Paint losses, craquelure, surface grime, significant warping to the panel support. N.B. It appears that the ship is flying the ensign of the British Royal Navy that came into use in 1801. "The White Ensign, at one time called the St George's Ensign due to the simultaneous existence of a cross-less version of the flag, is an ensign flown on British Royal Navy ships and shore establishments.
