The linen flag in red, white, and blue, with brass clips up the luff, the luff stencilled "39" [1939] and " Union 571-4520 ," and in ink " N/W" and "H.O.P./5 ." The flag weighted at lower luff. and with some staining to the luff, but otherwise in good order. A rare 1939 Union Jack supplied to the British Houses of Parliament to be flown over the Palace of Westminster. During the Battle of Britain the flag was not flown, and the Parliament was bombed twice, in September 1940 and again in 1941. The Union Flag is only flown when the Houses of Parliament are sitting, the main flagpole being atop the Victoria Tower.
