Small 2 o (318 x 200 mm). Large armorial woodcut on title and numerous armorial woodcuts in text. (Some worming at beginning and end.) Contemporary polished calf over paste boards, by PAUL THIELE of Wittenberg, dated "1559," two wide roll tooled borders on sides enclosing a central panel, the panel of the upper cover bears the initials "MGZSHZSP" and below "AEZ," in the center of the upper cover is a gilt plaque, showing the crucifixion, the central panel of the lower cover with a plaque of Adam and Eve (spine ends and corners skilfully repaired, some light worming). Provenance : Bogislav XIII, Duke of Pomerania, and his brother Johann Friedrich and Ernst Ludwig (initials on upper cover, and three autograph quotations from Deuteronony, Psalms and Proverbs); purchased from Lucien Goldschmidt, 11 October 1955. FIRST EDITION, bound in a German Renaissance binding for the Duke of Pomerania. BM/STC German p.155.
