BRUCE MCLAREN A Bell 'Magnum' open-face race helmet, worn by Bruce McLaren throughout the 1969 season in both Formula 1 and Can-Am series races, achieving notable results in both categories, especially by winning the Can-Am Championship by a mere 5 points from team mate Denny Hulme: a unique feat in which between them they won all 11 races, and either finished 2nd when not winning or completing a race. At the Riverside track in October, Bruce had quite an accident, damaging the car; as a result of which he decided he needed a new helmet and gave this one to his mechanic, the current owner and vendor. Early in 1970 Bruce tragically lost his life in a testing accident with the M8D prototype, the intended challenger for the new season. Therefore this property offered represents a poignant momento as his last race-winning helmet.
