Contemporary American blind-ruled calf, rebacked retaining original paste-downs, new free endpapers, (lacks p. 193-200, browned, lower margin of title-page restored, later pencilled notes on paste-downs). RARE FIRST AMERICAN EDITION dedicated to the Hon. William Denny, lieutenant governor of the Province of Pennsylvania by Bulkeley who had emigrated to Pennsylvania. The work includes a List of Subscribers of over 1200 distinguished names in the colonies, and includes over 80 pages of material not in the 1743 London edition including letters, testimonials and the narrative of Isaac Morris, one of eight men left ashore in Patagonia when Bulkeley and others sailed for Rio.
