BURTON, Richard Francis Sir (1821-90). Personal Narrative of a Pilgrimage to El-Medinah and Meccah . London: Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans, 1855-56. 3 volumes, 8° (202 x 130mm). Half title and list of plates in vol. III, one folding engraved map, 3 plans, 12 lithographed plates only (of 13), 5 coloured and 7 tinted, and one wood-engraved plate (lacking one tinted lithographed plate and half titles in vols. I & II, folding map torn at folds, repaired with adhesive tape but partly tearing again, also with a few clean tears, upper corner of *D8 partly torn away with loss of one word, repaired with adhesive tape, a few upper corners nearly torn away, marginal tears, torn with loss of a few letters of 2 lines but sense recoverable in vol. II I1, some light, mainly marginal, soiling and short tears throughout). 20th-century calf-backed boards, spine lettered in gilt (rubbed).
