Benares: Kamashastra Society for private subscribers, 1885-1886. 16 volumes bound in 17, including supplement, 8 o. EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED by the addition of numerous portraits, views and genre scenes, some in color. Plum morocco gilt, covers with gilt borders surrounding central arabesques, spines gilt-lettered and -decorated, top edges gilt, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Provenance : Geraldine Farrar (1882-1867), soprano, silent film actress and vivacious personality (morocco bookplates). FIRST EDITION of Burton's translation, finely bound and extra-illustrated.
