CANOVA, Antonio (1757-1822). [ Works ]. [?Rome: 1820]. Broadsheets (852 x 650mm). 69 engraved plates by P. Vitali, P. Bonato, R. Morghen, F. Hayes, P. Fontana, A. Campanella, A. Bertini, A. Ricciani, G. Ballestra, G.B. Ballestra, A. Testa, B. Consorti, G. Folo, P. Bettelini, and D. Marchetti, after drawings by S. Tofanelli, D. del Frate, B. Nocchi, G. Tognòli, L. Durantini, F. Fontana, and G. De Min, after works by Canova. (Scattered light spotting, mainly marginal, some light marginal dampstaining, a few plates creased, one plate with clean tear crossing platemark but not affecting image.) Contemporary half roan, spine lettered in gilt and with gilt tool at foot, top edge gilt (boards somewhat marked, extremities scuffed and rubbed with minor surface losses, corners bumped). Provenance : Sir William Augustus Fraser of Ledeclune and Morar, fourth Baronet (1826-1898, bookplate). A FINE COLLECTION OF PLATES DEPICTING CANOVA'S STATUES, MONUMENTS AND OTHER WORKS. This collection is probably from the folio collection of plates of Canova's plastic works published in Rome in 1820, containing 70 plates (cf. Brunet I, col. 1547).
