High-quality brown leather album with gilt designs and cover imprint S.W. Bullock, for Sarah Wilson Bullock, wife of Anthony Davis Bullock (1824-1890). Bullock was appointed Capt. and Asst. Qtr. Master with the Commissary Department of Subsistence in the Dept. of the Ohio by Ohio Gov. William Dennison in 1861, and later commissioned a Col. of Volunteers appointed Provost Marshal of Cincinnati. Album contains CDVs of Col. Bullock and his wife and extended family, almost all identified, including one of a young son or nephew dressed in a military uniform; cartes of many prominent Cincinnatians; a fine carte of abolitionist Lucretia Mott; a carte of Samuel Francis Smith writer of "My Country, 'Tis of Thee"; and a carte labeled "The Author of Dixie," though it does not appear to be Dan Emmett. Military cartes include: copy CDV of Gen. John Pope; a brigadier general identified as Gen. Wright; a Brady carte of Gen. Winfield Scott; carte of Surgeon Lucian A. James, 4th Ohio Cavalry; carte of an officer identified as Col. Littler, USA; carte of an officer identified as Dr. McMullen(?); carte of Col. George H. Crosman; and especially notable is a carte of Gen. William Rosecrans, signed twice by Rosecrans, on the print as major general, and on verso with inscription to Col. Bullock. Condition: Album is in very good condition, with light shelf wear. Cartes very good.
