including Lieutenant Thomas Ward Custer and Elizabeth B. Custer, with the imprint below the image Brady Washington. Illustrated in Katz' Custer in Photographs (K-49), dated January 3, 1865. Verso includes Brady backmark and penciled date 1865. Thomas Ward Custer (1845-1876), a younger brother of George A. Custer, was a U.S. Army officer and two-time recipient of the Medal of Honor for bravery during the American Civil War. He died with his brother at the Battle of Little Big Horn. Elizabeth "Libbie" Bacon Custer (1842-1933) was a beautiful and intelligent woman who came from a wealthy, influential family. She was an outspoken advocate for Custer's legacy after his death. Condition: Scattered staining and foxing, small tear on upper portion of recto, minor crease through center of CDV, tonality VG.
