Beschreibung:

CHARLES II, King of England (1660-1685). Autograph letter signed ('Charles R', at the foot) to an unidentified correspondent, Breda, 27 April 1660, one page, 8vo , small letter 'B' inscribed in lower left corner of letter, integral blank leaf, seal (2 lines lightly scored across the central portion of the 2nd leaf, soiled, tiny splits, browned, torn in folds), and a wrapper. An acknowledgment of his correspondent's 'zeal for service', 'and [I] do very well approve your endeavours with those in power to gett some commande in the fleete and shall be glad you can attayne it, but how to advance your pretence by any recommendation of myne I cannot imagyne, since whatever good thoughts and resolutions good men may have in there heartes, they do not yett professe it to that degree, as to receave my directions'. Written three weeks after the declaration of Breda, and shortly before Charles II was proclaimed King. He left Holland for England on 24 May.
