Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1995
6 bottles per lot
Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1995 Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A) Tasting Note: A surprisingly sweet, chocolatey, rich, spicy magnum at the Wolf/Weinart vertical in September 1997. Three months later : delicious flavour and aftertaste. The following Autumn, with Pierre Lurton at the château, its sweetness almost gamey ; rich and chewy (64 Merlot I was informed). Equally admiring notes at the MW tasting of '95s in November 1999 and, later the same month, more detailed at the Bordeaux Index Right Bank blind tasting, including 'far too chocolatey' with a (pleasant, nostalgic) whiff of a thoroughbred stable ; lean but flavoury. Although 'chocolatey' noted again at Rodenstock's blind tasting, I award it equal top mark, adding 'sweet, easy', 'maturing quickly' and 'great charm'. Last tasted March 2001. **** M.B. 6 bottles per lot
