Chateau Latour 1961 Chateau Latour 1961 Pauillac, 1er Cru Classe Lot 15: u. t/hs, label very slightly soiled but excellent for age, capsule slightly corroded on top Lot 16: u. t/hs, label slightly soiled but excellent for age, embossed metal capsule removed to reveal Chateau and vintage branded cork, capsule replaced and slightly wrinkled, hand blown bottle slightly chipped at collar, repacked from owc In everyone's list of mythical wines, but still very much present in its enormous vigour, dimension and complexity. The rich, pervasively scented bouquet leads to a great, treacly taste, with overlapping layers, plus fruit and tannin in massive doses. Just before its 50th birthday, it had that immediate, ultra-concentrated, total cassis, burly Latour nose. Utterly nostalgic and reminiscent of time and place. A huge gulp of intoxicating fruit and aromatics, with that inimitable thick texture of 1961 in general and Latour in particular. So much fat, it covers the tannin. Total tensile strength. It literally is "crunchy" with berries. After two hours in the glass, it is even more stupendous. In 2012, more of the same! Serena Sutcliffe, MW Lot 16 1 jero - 4.5 litre (cn) per lot: GBP 16000-20000 per lot: USD 19500-24500 per lot: EUR 18500-23500 LYING IN GREENFORD, MIDDLESEX Offered Duty Paid only Quantity: 1
