Château Latour--Vintage 1959
1 jeroboam per lot
1959 LAFITE ROTHSCHILD At the Château this vintage has always been referenced with the greatest respect. For many it signifies the pinnacle of what mature Lafite is about in the way it enrobes the palate and ignites the imagination of the taster. The following in jeroboam is truly a rare occurrence at auction. I have only come across one other during my nine years at Christie's. Provenance for this lot is known and satisfies Christie's standards from a discrete collector. Château Latour--Vintage 1959 Pauillac, 1er cru classé Level: bottom neck; capsule cut to reveal château and vintage branded cork, slightly raised cork, lightly bin soiled label, damp stained label, deep punt "1959 Latour was a revelation, with rich, lush black fruit on the nose and hints of baking spices alongside elegant notes of cedar, smoke and a hint of black truffle. On the palate the wine was almost shockingly youthful, with a seamless, creamy texture, full body and an amazing finish. The wine lingered on the palate, continuing to evolve in the glass, and offering pretty licorice and black cherry notes an hour after pouring. This wine illustrates the triumph of finesse over raw power." CC, tasted Oct 2008 1 jeroboam per lot
