Château Latour--Vintage 1971
1 double-magnum per lot
Château Latour--Vintage 1971 Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled Vintage note: Poor weather interrupted flowering giving lower yields. Rain continued throughout the spring, but after veraison the weather turned drier than usual, helping the small crop to ripen nicely. The harvest began on 30 September and continued through the 11th of October. The wines ended up with very good concentration and structure and are still evolving nicely. "Plaisir, èquilibre, complexitè. Dèlicieux." At the estate, Frédéric Engerer, March 2011 "Deep colour, maturing. Powerful and strongly scented, sweet and concentrated. Good acidity giving freshness combined with rich flavours of licquorice and dark fruit. Balanced with an intense yet elegant finish." At the estate, David Elswood, March 2011 "The 1971 Latour at a recent event was stunningly youthful, with really rich, sweet mulberry fruit and an almost port-like intensity on the nose with hints of exotic spices and a floral perfume. On the palate the wine had loads of presence, yet a softly silky texture and a wonderful integration of flavors and structure that lasted a very long time on the finish." At the estate, Charles Curtis M. W., March 2011 "A vibrant Latour with lively blackberry fruit and fresh acidity. A very impressive wine given the vintage - this is one of the most successful wines from 1971. Still young and very densely packed. Tasted blind, it showed so well that everyone guessed it was from a much grander year. Wait at least another 3-5 years before enjoying it. Will keep for another decade or more." At the estate, Jeannie Cho Lee M. W., March 2011 1 double-magnum per lot
