THREE VINTAGES OF CHATEAU PALMER, INCLUDING THE GREAT 1961 The following cases of Château Palmer have been shipped direct from Bordeaux having lain unmoved since original purchase in good professional storage. All the original cases were opened by Christie's staff for the first time for inspection purposes Offered in original wooden cases with damaged lids Château Palmer--Vintage 1959 Cantenac (Margaux), 3me cru classé. Château-bottled Lot 131 slightly corroded capsules. Good labels, slightly faded. Levels: two very top, three top, three upper/top, three upper and one mid/upper-shoulder. Lot 132 corroded and damaged capsules. Good labels. Levels: three mid, three mid/low, four low and two below low-shoulder Tasting note: the highlight of a vertical tasting held recently at Ransome's Dock restaurant in London, all the bottles coming direct from the Mahler-Besse cellars in Bordeaux. Very youthful appearance with an opaque core. Intense and powerful on the nose with a smoky, roasted coffee bean aroma and a hint of confection. Plently of concentrated blackcurrant and an attractive gaminess. On the palate: soft, smooth and generous. Complex. Still some tannin but perfectly complementing the warm, ripe cherry and blackcurrant fruit. Marvellous balance and length with characteristic Palmer subtlety and elegance. Delicious now but will certainly keep. T.H. 1 dozen bottles per dozen
