Beschreibung:

CHILDREN'S ILLUSTRATION] PETERSHAM, MAUD AND MISKA. Original artist's maquette for Get-a-way and Hary Janos . No date, but before 1933, when Viking published the first edition. Plain red cloth spine, front cover with watercolor drawing incorporating the lettering, front endpapers painted in watercolor. 10 1/4 inches (26 cm). Sixty-four pencil numbered pages. The title page and contents leaf are drawn in crayon and pencil. The first full opening, pages 4 and 5, is quite fully rendered in pencil, crayon, and watercolor. The next recto (page 7) has a very accomplished pencil sketch for an illustration; the book is otherwise blank. Two rough sketches are laid in. Minor staining to front cover. The drawings here differ somewhat (as might be expected) from their published counterparts. The Petershams were Caldecott Medal winers for their 1946 book The Rooster Crows. Provenance: Selma Lanes (author of The Art of Maurice Sendak, etc.)
