Beschreibung:

Prince Lee Boo, [James Izzard, 1818?], hand-coloured engraved wooden jigsaw puzzle, with thirty-six pieces forming twelve scenes, each with printed caption below image, lightly dust-soiled, three lugs lacking and one piece supplied in facsimile, 26 x 19cm (10.25 x 7.5ins), together with a new edition of The History of Prince Lee Boo, published by Wetton, circa 1828, disbound, 12mo Hannas, pp.129-30. Extremely rare early jigsaw. The only other copy we have traced is that in the private collection of Linda Hannas; her copy is housed in the original box, which carries the (partially erased) imprint on the label. The National Library of Australia holds a similar puzzle telling the story of Prince Lee Boo, published by William Darton in 1822 (with three replacement pieces). The Harry R. Beard print collection in the V & A has an uncoloured undissected engraving by Izzard in the same format, titled 'Gulliver or the Island of Laputa', published in 1818. (1)
