"Between 1835 and 1869, approximately 350,000 pioneers followed the Platte River road from the Missouri River to South Pass, Wyoming, and then on to the Pacific Coast. Although at least one-fifth of the overlanders were young people, their story is just beginning to be told.". From the introduction.
