Beschreibung:

Circa 1820 to 1830. OL: 57 - 1/2". BL: 41 - 1/2". TB: Octagonal. LM: Flintlock. PB: 4-piece. S: Plain maple. Unsigned. Relief carving. 2 silver inlays. This curly maple stocked Kentucky has a simple four-piece patchbox and a replaced original flintlock. The engraving on the brass mounts consists primarily of simple “chisel-walking.” This rifle has some incised carving and very unique relief carving behind the cheekpiece. At first glance, this carving appears to be spurious; however, portions (particularly the lower portion) of it looks to possibly be original with some parts being “re-freshed”. The checkered triangle below the cheekpiece is very well-done. Various brass inlays along the barrel’s stock are probably modern replacements. The rear ferrule is a modern replacement, and there are a few splits and cracks, with some small pieces of wood missing.
