Civil War Springfield Musket Sling and Bayonet

Beschreibung:

.69 caliber smoothbore, 42" round barrel secured by three barrel bands. Breech of barrel marked with VP and eagle. Left flat stamped NJ. Tang dated 1849. Iron trigger guard and butt plate. Steel ramrod with trumpet-shaped head. Bayonet lug on the bottom of barrel at the muzzle. Lockplate marked Springfield and dated 1848. Walnut stock. Model 1842 bayonet with locking clasp. Complete with original leather scabbard. Provenance: Ex Pete and Jackie Kersten Collection Condition: Barrel, lock, trigger guard and bands are burnished bright. Almost mint with light cleaning of the metal. Walnut stock has only a few scratches and dings from crating. Stock with mint inspector's cartouche. New Jersey stamp cartouche on buttstock. All lines of stock are absolutely crisp and mint with open feathered grain wood with light oil finish applied. Wood has darkened with a very light coat of oil applied for protective finish. Stock maker's initials behind trigger bow. Bayonet is crisp and mint. A very fine Model 1842 for the discriminating collector.
