Expansive collection of signatures from Civil War-era military figures and prominent 19th century politicians. Notable military signatures include the following: Henry Knox Thatcher (1806-1880) who participated in the Battle of Fort Fisher and capture of Mobile, AL, as an officer of the United States Navy; Fletcher Webster (1818-1862) son of Daniel Webster who was killed at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run; Gen Gilman Marston (1811-1890) who served as U.S. Senator and Union General; Gen. Daniel Ullman (1810-1892) who raised and commanded five regiments of African American soldiers known as the Corps d'Afrique; Major General and Chief Quartermaster of the Army of the Potomac Rufus Ingalls (1818-1893); and Generals J. B. Van Patten, L. B. Di Cesnola, E. Shriver, John G. Parke, John Schofield John A. Logan Lorenzo Thomas, Franz Sigel, and Benjamin F. Butler. Notable political signatures include: anti-slavery Liberal Republican B. Gratz Brown (1826-1885) who served as U. S. Senator and Governor of Missouri; New York City Mayor George Opdyke (1805-1880) who governed during the Civil War and the New York City Draft Riots; Connecticut Governor William Alfred Buckingham (1804-1875), known as the "War Governor" for his staunch support of the Union war effort; Edward Everett (1794-1865), famed Massachusetts orator and politician; Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles (1802-1878) who led the department during the entirety of the Civil War; and Massachusetts Governor and proponent of the 54th Massachusetts John A. Andrew (1818-1867). Also included is a medal commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of the U.S. Constitution (1787-1987), a guide book to the Battlefield of Antietam, a reproduction print after an original painting titled "Battle of Antietam. Gallant Charge of Gen. Burnside's Division at the Bridge," an 1897 imprint entitled "The Antietam Campaign" by Bvt. Lieutenant-Colonel George B. Davis and another 1888 paper entitled "Strategy of the Campaign of Sharpsburg or Antietam" by Lieutenant-Colonel William Allan C.S.A. Condition: Signatures appear on a variety of document types including letters, illustrations, receipts, etc. Overall good condition though with expected wear and soil given age.
