Title: Collection of letters from Mrs. Hans (Phoebe) Barkan & Phoebe Barkan Gilpin to Marlan Beilke. Author: Place: Publisher: Date: 1960s-80s Description: The group consists of approximately 23 handwritten letters from Phoebe Barken to Beilke discussing her relationship as friends of the Jeffers, her own Jeffers collection which her daughter Phoebe later gave to the Gleeson Library; 8 handwritten letters from Phoebe Barken Gilpin mostly concerning Jeffers matters; An 8 page typescript by Marlan Beilke “Robinson Jeffers: Conversations With The Future” heavily corrected in the hand of Blanche Mathias, accompanied by a 2 page typewritten letter from Mathias with critical commentary on the manuscript and explaining her notes. This later became a lecture, delivered by Beilke; book of poetry, The Wish To Sing by Blanche Mathias, inscribed to Beilke. The total, a wealth of Jeffers information, certainly not available elsewhere from these friends and Jeffers scholars. Also includes 7 photos of all, at various gatherings, most identified on the reverse. Lot Amendments Condition: All in very good condition, mostly with mailing envelopes. Item number: 275883
