[6], 911; [2], 916, [4], 18 pp. (Folio) 30x19 cm (11¾x7½"), quarter calf, raised bands, black calf spine pieces lettered in gilt. First Edition. Two volume edition of William Penn's writings along with a short "journal" of his life and times. Penn was a writer, early member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), and founder of the English North American colony the Province of Pennsylvania. He was an early advocate of democracy and religious freedom, notable for his good relations and successful treaties with the Lenape Native Americans. Printer's catalog at the rear of volume 2. Condition: Ex-library (withdrawn), bindings worn, boards tenderly attached, bookplates to verso of title page and front pastedowns, tear to vol. 1 title page, occasional soiling and spotting, annotations to index in vol. 2; very good.
