2 vols. Illustrated. 21x15 cm (8¼x6"), stab-stitched purple decorative paper with paper cover labels, in slipcase with side ties. Translated by Alice Cheney. An account by Matajiro Kojima, a Government official who was present during Commodore Perry's visit to Hakodate in May 1854. The account gives the Japanese reactions to Perry's visit as well as a description of the behavior of the Americans.
