Conrad, Joseph (1857-1924), Autograph letter signed, July 18th, 1902, one page, to Mr. Tinker (?), thanking him for a sent check and lamenting the loss of a written story, text in part, "Perhaps you don't what misfortune has befallen me? All the..?..and type of my Blackwood story have been burnt. The lamp on my table exploded and I was too late to save a single scrap of any value. I am now rewriting in a great hurry and in no small trouble", 10 1/4 by 8 in., (toning and edge chip, some old fold marks and minor soiling).
