Capes with the Author's kind regards. 20 Nov. 1902" (publication date was 13 November). Smith 8; Connolly, The Modern Movement , 14. The recipient, Harriet Capes, was a good friend of Conrad's; in 1908 he dedicated A Set of Six to her. She later edited the selection Wisdom and Beauty from Conrad (1915). The "two other stories" in this book are "Heart of Darkness" and "The End of the Tether" (the first book appearance for both). Bookplate of Harriet Capes.
