Growler serving on the West Africa Station, to his mother in Warwickshire, all six complete with letters giving indications as to origin; the correspondence comprises the following: 1869 (18 July) "At Sea" bearing Madeira 120r. cancelled "51" and with Funchal c.d.s.; 1869 (29 Aug.) "Illah Coffre " bearing G.B. 1d. cancelled at Kidderminster and with Liverpool Ship tombstone d.s. alongside; 1869 (7 Nov.) "Cameroons River" , the envelope unstamped or marked re postage; 1870 (18 Jan.) "At Sea" with the envelope marked "No Stamps obtainable" ; 1870 (6 Feb.) "St. Paul de Loando" bearing G.B. 1d. cancelled in London; 1870 (30 Apr.) "Ascension Hospital" with the envelope marked "No Stamps Obtainable" and showing Ascension c.d.s. on face; 1870 (4 July) "Steam Ship "Roman" Madeira" bearing G.B. 6d. cancelled "H" ? in diamond of bars and with circular "MORE/TO/PAY", and accompanied by a further letter only "At Sea Off Coast of Liberia" and two earlier letters from Shanghai and Woosung in 1862. Also a group of G.B. internal mail (54 items), 1828-69, from the same correspondence. The seven letters with a few faults in places though a scarce and most unusual group
