CRUIKSHANK, George (1792-1878) -- Edward HARINGTON]. A Schizzo on the Genius of Man, Bath: Printed by R. Cruttwell, 1793. 8°, half title, engraved plate, errata leaf at end (some light spotting and browning). Contemporary brown half morocco gilt, top edges gilt (extremities rubbed). GEORGE CRUIKSHANK'S COPY, signed and dated (1850) by him on the title, and with a marginal note on p.225, discussing Raphael's cartoon of "The Miraculous Draught of Fishes", "The boats in this carton [sic] are so small in proportion to the figures that they look ridiculus [sic]. The two fishermen who are draging [sic] the net are also bad, both being in the same attitude nearly. The other parts of the picture are beautiful. G.C." With 7 other books illustrated by George Cruikshank including Henry Mayhew's 1851: or, the Adventures of Mr and Mrs Sandboys and Family (London, [n.d.]), the same author's Great Exhibition of 1851. Eleven Plates ([London, n.d.], lacking text, original portfolio) and Cinderella and the Glass Slipper [Vol.III of "Fairy Library"). The lot sold not subject to return. (8)
