London: for Septimus Prowett, 1828. 24 etched plates (with engraving) on India paper, each mounted on heavy laid paper, mounts measure approximately 258 x 167 mm, (without the four woodcuts on a single folded sheet mentioned in Cohn, a few mounts slightly foxed, some mounts darkened at extreme edges). Loose as issued in original printed board folder (rebacked, covers rubbed); cloth slipcase. Provenance : George Cruikshank (signature on front cover, dated 1828); Albert M. Cohn (shelf label and bookplate); William Hartmann Woodin (bookplate); Robert Norton Ganz (bookplate). CRUIKSHANK'S OWN SET OF THE VERY RARE INDIA PROOFS. "'India proofs' seem to have been unknown to both [Douglas and Reid] ... copies are of rarity" (Cohn 150 note). [With:] [COLLIER, John]. Punch and Judy, with illustrations designed and engraved by George Cruikshank . London: for S. Prowett, 1828. 12 o (124 x 122 mm). Engraved title-vignette, 24 hand-colored etched plates (including frontispiece), and four woodcuts in text by Cruikshank. Original drab muslin, printed paper spine label (spine darkened with some wear at ends, some repairs to spine, spine label rubbed and soiled). Provenance : Robert Norton Ganz (bookplate).
