DELAMARCHE, Félix, Paris An elegant and unusual mid 19th-Century French tellurium, the 3-inch (7.6cm.) diameter terrestrial globe DELAMARCHE Paris Rue Serpente made up of two sets of twleve coloured printed gores and two polar calottes, the equatorial and meridian of Paris graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the continents with nation states shaded in green and yellow, mounted with a rotating wire arm and white-painted wooden moonball atop the unengraved brass meridian half circle, the gears arranged to rotate the earth and the moon on a long brass arm, as well as the blued-iron index on a vertical printed paper hour dial, the other end of the arm rotating on an axis with candle holder and reflector, above a horizontal oval enamel plaque showing the days of the month in French, degrees, the seasons of the year with the equinoxes and solstices marked, the houses of the Zodiac and compass directions, mounted on a mahogany cabinet with fruitwood edging, the upper surface further with a glazed brass compass case with silvered dial, blued-steel needle with jewelled cap and clamp, and a fruitwood and brass turning handle, one side with a shallow drawer with ivory pull, raised on four fruitwood bun feet -- 22in.
