DESIGNER UNKNOWN DER REAKTION EINE HARTE LINKE / SDS. Circa 1968. 46 1/2x33 1/2 inches, 118x85 cm. SDS, Berlin. Condition B+ / B: repaired tears, restoration and overpainting in margins and image; restored losses in top corners. An exceptional German political poster from the end of the 1960s. The SDS (Sozialistische Deutsche Studentenbund - Socialist German Student Union) was formed in 1946, but became particularly politically active in the late 1960s as student activism increased around the world. The poster's message, that the SDS's reaction is a "hard left," is a double-entendre referring to both the political left as well as the punch being thrown into the face of authority. The anonymous design clearly plays off of Roy Lichtenstein's 1965 screenprint "Sweet Dreams Baby."
