Original printed blue wrappers bound in, partially unopened (wrappers slightly marked, lower wrapper torn with slight loss and skilfully repaired). FIRST EDITION. Eckel p.196 (noting that 'Chapters I, VI and VIII are by Dickens'); Sadleir 702c. C. DICKENS and William Wilkie COLLINS (1824-1889). Original printed blue wrappers bound in (wrappers lightly marked at edges). FIRST EDITION. Eckel p.196 (noting that 'Dickens wrote The Overture, portions of the First and Fourth Acts, and the entire Act III. Wilkie Collins wrote the balance'); Sadleir 702e. The two works uniformly bound in mid 20th-century dark-blue crushed morocco gilt by Bayntun (Riviere), the upper covers titled in gilt, covers panelled with a pointillé roll-tool with floral cornerpieces, gilt fillet borders, the spines gilt in 6 compartments divided by raised bands, the compartments decorated with fleurons within frames, board edges and turn-ins roll-tooled in gilt, top edges gilt, others uncut. A HANDSOME, UNIFORMLY-BOUND PAIR, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH ELEVEN ORIGINAL WATERCOLOURS BY 'KYD'. A total of nine Christmas Numbers of 'All The Year Round' were issued between 1859 and 1867, the last 5 (1863-1867) in blue wrappers. Writing in 1932, Eckel judged that 'in a good state [the Christmas Numbers] are hard to find' (p.197). (2)
