FIRST EDITION of the author's first book, PRESENTATION COPY TO FELLOW AUTHOR JOHN KENDRICK BANGS, inscribed by Dreiser in 1907 (the year the first illustrated edition appeared) on front free endpaper: "To John Kendrick Bangs who is under no obligation to read the following pages. Theodore Dreiser. Mott Haven, April 19th 07." Merle Johnson, p. 151. A very good to fine copy for this book, and rare inscribed. Provenance : Katharine de B. Parsons, bookplate (sale, Sotheby Parke Bernet, 6 October 1976, lot 74).
