Putnam, in Hollywood, with an autograph postscript from her husband ("George"), "The White House Washington," [postmarked 14 May 1936]. 4 pages, 4to, on gold-imprinted White House stationery, matching original envelope in Earhart's hand. EARHART FROM THE ROOSEVELT WHITE HOUSE. A year before her disappearance on an attempted around-the-world flight, the aviatrix writes from the White House, where they are guests: "G.P. and I are here overnight. He remembers he came with his father during President McKinley's 'reign' and he (the President) put a red carnation in his little boy's suit lapel. G.P. must have been small fry, indeed. We shall be coming west soon...there are several banquets and other duties we must go through with first. We attended the large dinner given Dr. [Hugo] Eckener [builder of the dirigible Graf Zeppelin ] in New York--1500 people and hundreds turned away. I have never seen so many Germans at one time. Earhart was a better name than Putnam there..."
