Eighteen aerial photographs of Los Angeles, by Fairchild Aerial Surveys, Inc., Los Angeles. Author: Fairchild, Sherman Place: Los Angeles Publisher: Fairchild Aerial Surveys, Inc. Date: Feb. 12, 1934 Description: Gelatin silver photographs. Fairchild rubberstamp with route/job number, date and image number (1 through 18) on the versos. 18.5x23.5 cm (7¼x9¼"). Set of aerial photographs of a primarily commercial, industrial and warehouse district of Los Angeles, with some residential buildings - not your Hollywood or Beverly Hills glamor spots, but the gritty infrastructure that kept Los Angeles afloat during the trying years of the Great Depression. The photographs were taken from a lower altitude than most aerial views, and in a contiguous pattern (with some overlap), so one can piece together the entire district, or a large portion thereof. The numbering of each photograph assists in this task. Sherman Fairchild was one of the pioneers of the commercial use of aerial photography in the United States. Lot Amendments Condition: Minor spotting to a few images; very good. Item number: 343767a
