Set of aerial photographs of a primarily commercial, industrial and warehouse district of Los Angeles, with some residential buildings - not your Hollywood or Beverly Hills glamor spots, but the gritty infrastructure that kept Los Angeles afloat during the trying years of the Great Depression. The photographs were taken from a lower altitude than most aerial views, and in a contiguous pattern (with some overlap), so one can piece together the entire district, or a large portion thereof. The numbering of each photograph assists in this task. Sherman Fairchild was one of the pioneers of the commercial use of aerial photography in the United States.
