EL LISSITZKY
EL LISSITZKY Moi Parizh -- My Paris. Text by Il'ia Erenburg. Moscow: IZOGIZ, 1933. Oblong octavo (163 x 185 mm). 121 black and white photographs and 2 black and white photomontages. Original blue paper-covered boards (spine ends and hinges neatly restored); pictorial dust jacket (spine and edges neatly restored); black cloth folding case. FIRST EDITION, IN A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE RARE DUST JACKET. "A significant addition to the photographic bibliography of this most photographed of cities. In all of this remarkable book we are allowed only the merest glimpse of a tourist hotspot. Instead, Ehrenburg contributes a frank, unsparing view of the Parisian proletariat, of which the socialist dissident Atget himself would surely have approved" ( The Photobook ). This copy was exhibited in 'The Open Book' at the International Center of Photography (17 June - 4 September, 2005). The Open Book, pp.112-3; The Photobook, vol. I, pp.132-3; Regards à travers le livre 58; The Russian Avant-Garde Book , pp.218-19.
