Messingbronze, gegossen, rötlich patiniert. Über einem mitgegossenen Rundkehlsockel die auf einem antikischen Stuhl sitzende Person des antiken Mathematikers. Vor ihm eine auf dem Tisch stehende Destillerieapparatur, welche er durch einen Tretblasebalg anfeuert. Anmerkung: Ein Tisch im neoklassischem Stil, dessen Bronzen von Hébert gefertigt wurden, befindet sich im Musée d'Orsay.
