ENGLAND, SOVEREIGNS]. CHARLES I, King of England . Letter signed ("Charles R") as King of England, to Lord Viscount Falkland, Deputy General of Ireland, and others, Westminster, 27 June [1627/28]. 1 page, folio, text in a small, neat, scribal hand. CREATING AN IRISH BARONETCY. The King informs Falkland that "...Sir John Taaffe of Ballymote in the County of Sligo...a principall gentleman of an eminent English family and well assented[?] to our service," whose father, Sir William Taaffe, had "long served in the warres of that kingdom with much valour and reputation...we have thought...to advance him now to the honour and titles of a Baron and a Viscount of that our realm..." Falkland is commanded to draw up the patent "under the greate seal of our realm," making him "Lord Baron of Ballymote and Viscount Taafe of Corrin..." -- CROMWELL, OLIVER, Lord Protector . Document signed ("Oliver P.") as Lord Protector of Great Britain, Whitehall [London], 19 April 1655. 1 page, folio, text in an attractive italic hand, verso with endorsement signed by LISLEBONE, LONG, Speaker of the House of Commons, boldly signed by Cromwell at top. Cromwell, Lord Protector since 1653, issues an official order of payment to Lislebone Long "for so muche of his Salary due to him...for his attendance about Our person." Together two items. (2)
