Author: Paff, Adam E.M., editor Place: Boston Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Company Date: 1929 Description: Volume 4 only. xxii, [100] pp. Illustrations from photographs; original etched frontispiece. (4to) original linen-backed gray boards. No. 570 of 600 copies. First Edition. Original signed etching of "Flying Pintail" as frontispiece, with tissue guard; 62 reproductions of etchings and drypoints. First Edition of the fourth and final volume in the catalogue raisonne issued by Paff between 1917 and 1929 (a supplementary volume was added in 1959). Frank Weston Benson (1862-1951) was already well established as one of America's leading artists when he took up etching in 1912, and his popular success in that medium was immediate and long-lasting. He specialized in game birds, with occasional portraits of duck hunters. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine label chipped, fraying at spine ends, sunning and moderate wear to boards; a few stains and mild toning within; very good. Item number: 300953
