Kippis, A. A Narrative of the Voyages Round the World, Performed by Captain James Cook New York: Harper & Brothers, n.d. (ca 1788, dated letter "To the King" that serves as Foreword).16mo, brown cloth, gilt spine lettering, 445pp. Andrew Kippis (1725-1795) attended the Dissenting Academy at Northampton, and became a minister in 1746 of a church in Boston (Lincolnshire), then Dorking (Surrey) and finally, a Presbyterian congregation at Westminster where he served until his death. He was a prolific writer, publishing sermons, pamphlets, biographies, including the Biographia Britannica (5 vols. thereof). Another of his works is this account of Cook's three voyages, including "Character of Captain Cook. - Effects of his Voyages. - Testimonies of Applause. - Commemorations of his Services. - Regard Paid to his Family." Condition: Spine sunned. Corners bumped. Shelfwear with slight damage to head of spine, also. Light overall toning. Free endpapers removed. Title page separated, but present.
