EXQUISITE COLORED AND NEAR COLORLESS DIAMOND RING Centering upon an oval-cut pink diamond, enhancing an old mine-cut green diamond heart-shaped plaque, joined to an old mine-cut near colorless diamond oval hoop, mounted in gold and silver ( some diamonds backed with green enamel)--fitting finger size 6 By JAR, Paris There are few master contemporary jewelers who in their lifetime achieve stature to rank with the great names of Carlo Guiliano, Carl Faberge, Louis Cartier and other timeless artists. Joel Rosenthal is a jeweler who looks all around him for inspiration whether it be from Ancient Rome, 18th century France, or the decadent Art Nouveau. This inspiration, however, is the beginning as the objects have a freshness to them that are so distinct they could only be by one man. The ring offered here has classical overtones in its structure and combines the delicate pave-setting of the 18th century. The heart reflects the romance of the 1860's, yet it is the combination of stones that is so modern. In a daring way there are colored diamonds mixed with white diamonds in enamelled settings contrasting with the colored metals. Every jewel is unique and the ring offered here will be as instantly recogniseable in 2094 as 1994 by a jeweler who is uncompromising in his choice of stones and quality of craftsmanship. Only a handful of his creations have ever appeared at auction and therefore presents someone with a rare opportunity to acquire one of his great jewels.
